Everyone always has the best intentions when the New Year rolls around. You’re going to lose weight, exercise all the time, wake up earlier, and work harder. Then, by the end of January, you’ve failed at most of your goals and feel bad about yourself.

It happens to most of us, but here are 10 tips to help you start the New Year on the right track—and stay on it.

1. Get a Good Alarm Clock

We’re all guilty of hitting the snooze button one too many times. This New Year, invest in a good alarm clock that plays music or lights up slowly to wake you up gently. When you have a better wake up in the morning, your outlook tends to be more positive.

You’ll be in the right headspace to deal with your clients and their ever-changing wants and needs if you wake up on the right side of the bed.

2. Go to Bed Earlier

Sleep is vital for everyone, and most of us don’t get enough of it. Lack of sleep can affect your behaviour and cognitive processes. Try going to bed a little earlier, and see how much your energy levels and disposition improve. You might find yourself thinking up more creative designs or having that extra push at the end of the day to deal with accounting.

3. Invest in Interior Design Software

Organization is the key to success and to starting off the New Year on the right track. When you’re organized, you feel more confident, more in charge, and less stressed because you know what you have to do. It also means you can budget your time accordingly and know when you’ve reached your limits.

Invest in interior design software to organize your workflows.

4. Set Some Goals

Start the New Year off with a sense of purpose by setting some goals for your interior design business. You don’t need an exhaustive list—just a couple points you can work on. The goals will help keep you stay focused and give you something to work towards during the year.

Learn how to set SMART goals so you can achieve success.

5. Eat healthier

Eating healthy can be really hard some days, but it’s important to your overall health. Your body will function better and your mind will feel clearer when you take the time to eat healthy.

6. Schedule in “Me” Time

Business owners often put themselves last on the list of priorities. You race around doing whatever needs to be done to grow your interior design business and you put your needs behind everyone else’s. This New Year, schedule in some “me” time where you put yourself first. It’s important to be able to take some time for yourself and recharge.

7. Exercise

Exercise can be hard to commit to, so start small. Find an exercise class that you like or a series of videos online and start exercising once a week then work your way up to daily workouts.

8. Look for Inspiration

Sometimes, we get so busy that we stop looking for inspiration that can be found all around us, and that’s not good for an interior designer. Give yourself the time and permission to get inspired by the things you read or see, or the events you attend.

9. Make a Budget

Everyone should have a budget. If you don’t have one already, you should make one this New Year. It’s important to know how much money you have, where you’re spending your money, and how much you’re saving. It’s never too early to get a handle on your finances and start saving for retirement.

10. Network

Many people don’t like to network. However, networking can be fun, and it’s a great way to help your business grow and find new opportunities. Try to commit to a certain number of networking events each month.
